Forgotten your PIN code? Change it safely now without using the old one
Posted on 2025/04/24It happens to everyone: you have forgotten the PIN code for your bank card. But what if you really don't know your code anymore? Until now, this meant a lot of hassle, because you always needed your old PIN code to set a new one or you had to wait for a new one by post from the bank. That is no longer the case! Thanks to a new function that is available at all CASH points throughout Belgium, you can now easily change your PIN code without having to enter your old code. In this article we explain exactly how this works and what you should pay attention to when changing your PIN code.
How do you proceed? First, contact your bank to request a PIN code change where you do not have to enter your old code. Important: this new option is exclusively intended for when you no longer know your current PIN code. If you do remember your PIN code and would like to change it to another code that is easier for you to remember, you can simply do so at an ATM without contacting your bank.
After you have requested the change from your bank (the time it takes to process this request varies from bank to bank and will be communicated by your bank when you contact them), you can go to the nearest CASH point in the area to change your code. Insert your bank card with the chip facing up and forward and you will automatically be redirected to a screen to change your code. For security reasons, the CASH point may first verify your identity using your date of birth. You can then enter the new PIN code. After you have entered your new PIN code twice, it will be checked whether the new PIN code is correct.
After checking and approval, your PIN code has been changed and you can get started with your new PIN code! Please note: this function only works for debit and credit cards from participating banks. At present, these are Belfius, ING and soon also KBC/CBC. Do you still know your old code and do you want a new one? Then you are always welcome, regardless of which card and which bank.
Important! A PIN code is only for you. Never share your PIN code with others and never give your PIN code by phone or via a link. No one from the bank or from the CASH points will ever ask you for your PIN code.
